From the proprietor's reserve, sawed in the 1990's.
Beng is also called Rosewood in Cambodia, because of its beautiful reddish brown color,
but it is not a true Rosewood, so we use its Cambodian name. We are told it is very similar to African Afzelia. It is hard, very stable, machines beautifully and is a pleasure to work with. We sawed most of our cants into wide book matched sets or vertical grain boards. This is one or our favorite materials; Asians and Europeans are familiar with it but it is very rare now and almost unheard of in the United States.
